Workflows

Thala workflows are automated research and content pipelines. Each workflow handles a specific type of work, from discovering academic papers to transforming reports into article series.

Quick Reference

WorkflowWhat It DoesWhen to Use
Web ResearchResearches topics across the internetGeneral research, current information
Literature ReviewSurveys academic papers via citation networksScholarly research, systematic reviews
Book DiscoveryFinds books across three thematic categoriesExploring themes through books
Document ProcessingConverts documents to markdown with summariesIngesting PDFs, URLs, files
Report EnhancementImproves drafts via supervision, editing, fact-checkStrengthening existing reports
Evening ReadsTransforms reviews into 4-part article seriesPublishing research as accessible content
IllustrateAdds images to markdown documentsMaking articles visually engaging
Multi-LanguageResearches across multiple languagesTopics with important non-English sources
SynthesisCombines academic + web + books into one reportComprehensive research projects

Choosing a Workflow

Starting research from scratch?

Have content to process?

Special requirements?

Thoroughness Settings

All research workflows support consistent thoroughness tiers:

SettingIntended Use
TestSystem testing, quick validation
QuickFast overviews, exploration
StandardGeneral use (recommended default)
ComprehensiveImportant projects requiring depth
High QualityPublication-quality work

Higher thoroughness = more sources, deeper analysis, longer runtime.

Common Patterns

Full research pipeline:

  1. Run Synthesis (or individual research workflow)
  2. Apply Report Enhancement if needed
  3. Use Evening Reads to create publishable articles
  4. Add images with Illustrate

Quick exploration:

  1. Run Web Research at “quick” thoroughness
  2. If promising, re-run at “standard” or escalate to Literature Review

Multi-perspective research:

  1. Run Multi-Language Research with web workflow
  2. Enhance with Report Enhancement
  3. Optionally add academic depth via Literature Review
